aaton gear w/HVX hurdles

hi, trying to get my aaton 15mm rods/mattebox and follow focus to work with my HVX200. getting a custom machined bracket to attach the rods at the proper height for the mattebox to sit against the lens flush. however, if i add a gear to the outside of the focus wheel (on the camera) the follow focus won't have enough room to fit against it. what i'm thinking is that i can take the whole focus ring off the HVX and replace it with a gear allowing the follow focus something to grab to that won't stick out any further than the original focus ring did. has anyone tried this? any difficulties? thanks....

so, got my bracket today. everything works great, the 15mm rods attach (through the bracket) to the camera with the mattebox and follow focus attached. still haven't quite figured out the gearing on the focus ring part. i added a rubber band to the focus ring which seems to work decent but haven't done any real tests yet. somebody has to know something above removing the focus ring and adding a different style gear to replace it so it would work properly with the FF....
