Aaaah has anyone heard of this?!!

OK, so I have a great shoot for my documentary last Saturday, Shoot with 3 legends goes great. I bring the HDV tapes to my friend's house on Monday to upload them directly to a hard drive using his Mac from my Sony V1U. (I'm a broke ass NYCer, I cannot afford an HDV deck so I have no choice but to use my cam for uploading the footage) I have been uploading from my house onto my Mac just fine but we were in a hurry so I went to his place.

It was shot in 1080i, 24p & when we load it into final cut, tho all the settings for FC show it is being captured in 1080i, after we batch capture it, the playback shows its only at 720. all his FC settings are showing its set up to capture 1080i yet it changes itself. we even went back to check the settings many times & they all say HDV 1080i. Why is it only uploading at 720? We are totally baffled? We try all day to figure out how this could happen & there's no explanation so after about 4 hours we give in to fight that battle another day.

I go home later & try from my Mac. I hook up the cam & try as usual & what do you know? I cannot get Final cut to work correctly. it worked last week just fine. It will control my cams fast forward, stop, rewind, play but when I try to log & capture, I get an error message saying the Device is not connected, please check all connections & try again. So just to check, I try with iMovie HD. iMovie says, "Camera Connected" but when I try to upload, it will not. So then I try, Quicktime pro. It will not load.

I go to bed & wake up the next day. I plug it in again & boom! QT will upload (But there's allot of interlacing because its missing a "Codec" for the ability to handle HD uploading & I don't know what to do about that.) so i figure, hey, maybe the others will work too.

No luck, FC & iMovie still reacting the same & showing the same errors.

WTF!? does anyone know what's going on. Its killing me over here. Even the editor says he's never seen this where his setting just turn to a 720 format even tho its capturing in 1080i. uhg! can anyone help?

Thanks,
Thomas

I'm sorry. I'm pretty novice when it comes this side so I'm not sure what that means. How would I do that? What does it do?
