Aaaaargh! The MicroTrack II has the same beeping as the HVX!

Greetings, dear friends!

Well, I just picked up a new MicroTrack II for a super-low price at Sam Ash's 4-hour sale. Everything was fine with the included mic.

When I came home and plugged it intothe tape output of my 302, there was a nasty ratcheting noise, and periodic beeping. Sorta... familiar. I hooked my old MicroTrack up in the same setup... no ratcheting. No beep.

I calibrated to the oscillator, listened at that level - no ratcheting, no beep. I reconnected the new MicroTrack II, calibrated to the same level... nasty ratcheting and beeping.

So, I pulled the connectors out, listened with nothing connected - nasty ratcheting. Nasty beep. None on the old MicroTrack.

So, sadly, I have to say... stay away from the new MicroTrack II until this is figured out!

(just in case, I did indeed download and install the latest (1.0.1) firmware).

Wow - is this as loud as your HVX? And this doesnt happen with mic plugged in, just the 302? Is it maybe a mic vs line level type of thing?

My HVX has such a quiet beep I dont know if I should even send it back. FWIW I just tested my tascam hdp2 (new toy!) and its whisper quiet.
 
It happens whenever the input is set to 1/4 inch (whether mics, line sources, or nothing is connected). It doesn't happen when the input is set to 1/8 inch, whether the T-mic is attached or not.


Don't know how it compares to my HVX... the cam is still at Panny being repaired!
