A1 and 35mm adapters

Ok, so the time has come for me to begin my research on 35mm adapters for my beauty, my A1. So, who has some A1+35mm adapter footy they want to brag about? Post it here, talk about it here and maybe we'll have a central thread with this information.

I'll start posting my findings shortly but so far I'm leaning towards the M2 Indie Bundle - HD Edition for Nikon Lenses @ $1,295.00

I was leaning towards the M2 as well for a while, but then I discovered the Brevis, and at less than half the light loss the Brevis is a clear winner for me. My Brevis will actually be arriving hopefully at the end of this week, so far I have had to use it as a rental, but I am very happy with the results. I posted some HD grabs a few days ago. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=90375

Good things about the Brevis. . .
-Light weight
-Solid
-Very quick to set up
-Loses very little light
-If you zoom in a little you get full edge to edge sharpness, no vignetting, and little to no CA
-No barrel distortion, the Letus kills it on this one, every shot no matter what the lens looks like your looking through a slight fisheye.

I sent Dennis an e-mail today and those were the exact same reasons I told him why I liked the brevis out of all the adapters I tried so far.

I'm voting for the M2 here. I'm pleased as punch (like, big time) with its performance so far, though I've never used the Brevis so I can't comment on it. I'll have some footage (nothing spectacular, but it's something) posted in a day or so for you to gander at.

Ill vote for M2. But point out the following:

1/ Initial set up time takes awhile but from there its pretty straight forward after.
2/ Light loss can be an issue.
3/ Cost of m2 is higher.
4/ Ive seen some great footage from almost every adapter out there, but the stuff I have seen from the M2 has the edge to my eyes.
5/ Redrock seems to have a wider support network.
6/ Pro uptake of M2 seems higher. I am talking about who I have read about using this or that.
7/ I own one. But at this stage have hardly used it - I will more often in the coming months.
8/ Redrock forum has 1700 odd registered users ( I dont assume all have the M2) - forum is quite active - Cinevate forum has 350. That proves nothing, but you know when you need answers a forum is the easiest place to get them.

You should also check the Sgpro! Timur we need you here to declare the advantages of this British adapter. It's still underrated and IMO sharper than the M2.

Agreed 100%. I'm placing an order tomorrow for the rev 3 when it come's out next month. For me, it's the best looking adapter footage I've ever seen. Hands down.

Doesn't the M2 lose like 2 or 2.5 stops of light?

The SGPro is looking like a winner to me now.

hey xray, my job's servers blocks me from getting to that link. Can you copy and paste the content here for me?

Jay, it is 6 pages of content, so you'd better check it out when you get home ;)

Thanks for the link Ray, a lot of my thoughts were just confirmed :)

Check it out Jay, its a good read and test, Philips site is nice, take a view at his HDV demo video too.

While I agree that all of these adapters produce excellent images I still think the Brevis beats them out for the following reasons.

If your shooting inside you can forget about having the freedom to light properly with any adapter but the Brevis with the Cinefuse 1. I did plenty of shoots with the letus 35A which acutally lost a little less light than the M2 and the SG pro and I can't say how annoyed I was always popping breakers and having to overlight everything. Just be aware that if you have interiors to shoot most of these adapters will limit you in that degree. Not saying that you can't get a beautiful image, but I am saying that you will need A WHOLE BUNCH more light.
The Brevis also has interchangeable diffusers. With the Cinefuse 3 and the new one that Dennis is designing the Bokeh will rival that of the other adapters as well as the lightloss of other adapters. So if you do want to shoot outside and have the same bokeh as the other adapters it is indeed possible.

The Brevis and SG pro are also the only two adapters that seem to be constantly improved upon. The M2 and the Letus has just kind of stagnated in the production and desing where as Wayne and Dennis are constantly working on better designs and improvements for the adapters. Also all of Dennises improvements are intended to work with the adapter you currently own and he gives great discounts to those who have already purchased the adapter.

That's my take on the whole situation, and I'm sticking to it :)

You make some excellent points, Scharky. I've viewed great stuff from all the adapters, and indeed, anyone skilled enough can make every single one of them put out a beautiful, filmic feeling image. But I have to agree about the importance of light efficiency with the CF1 diffuser and shooting interiors. Right now that is certainly a big plus to the Brevis. Plus, I just like that it's a simple looking tube and reasonably unobtrusive. And I REALLY like the fact that the Brevis is constantly evolving and improving, but not necessarily leaving any of the early adopters SOL.

Can't wait to get one.

Incidentally, I will finally be testing an SGPro in about a week. Will possibly use it for my SpyFest entry if I can get the hang of it.

Gonna try it with the H1 and HD-SDI. :) Possibly the HV20 too.

interesting. can you order the cinefuse already mounted inside the brevis, or do you have to buy it seperately and mount it yourself?

The Brevis by default comes with the Cinefuse 1. This is the one that I shot "Man to Man" with http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=91878
There are currently 2 other diffusers available which are more dense, give better bokeh but lose more light. Currently the Brevis is the only adapter that allows you to change diffusers. There is currently a 4th diffuser in the works as well.
