A Work In Progress...

Very nice fall colours. I wish I had the time to go out and film all the red trees here in Vancouver right now too....

on the downside: I wish you had picked some other music. Glam-Goth music from Evanescence doesn't really fit with the relatively positive imagery ... something classical and public domain would make more sense.

if you really want to use Evanescence-type music, go for the original - they stole the sound from a band called The 3rd and the Mortal that released several excellent albums in the early to mid -90s.

so, to sum up: footage great, evanescence sucks (so you did good work, they didn't)

Ha! Thanks.

I actually titled this a WORK IN PROGRESS because I'm not sure what to do with it. I know its just scenery but it kinda bores me. I watch a 4 minute Disjecta piece and I'm never bored. But this, drags a little.

But, you could be right...it might be the music. It really wasnt what I had in mind. I wanted something upbeat but not slow and methodical. In fact, I have a buddy whose supposed to put something together for me but I figured F it and threw this in. I'm usually good at picking the right music but this has me stumped.

So, you gotta a song, band title name and I will run with it. Or at least check it out.

Also, one thing I'm learning is that color correction is HARD. The shots I like the least in this are the ones I CCed. Not because I didn't like where I was going with it but because for me the noise just jumps out at me.

So, I might revert many of my shots back to the original.
I'm open to any other comments. And morten, thanks for yours...I will go ahead and ditch the song next chance I get...

Beautiful shots. Some of them were really amazing. But you definitely need to boost the contrast or somethng to make the colors pop more. Some of the shots looked very muted. I'd give you specific advice on what to do but I suck at cc. :)

EXACTLY! I am trying to figure out how to better saturate the colors. I suck at that too....Color Correction.

If anyone knows of a good tool...im all ears. I usually stick with curves and dont venture much past that...

Thanks Blaine. I am more the interested to get some feedback. Some advice. Words of wisdom...
Okay, 1st of all...the music works for me. I really like the feel it gives the piece. As far as color correction goes, I also liked what I saw but got the feeling that you wanted more vibrant colors. With that in mind, I converted your file to a .mov file and brought it into FCP. I tried two different things with varying results. I bumped up the overall color saturation and got some decent results. However, it bumped up all the different colors. I then selectively chose the oranges, then the yellows and finally the reds (using 3 color corrector filters...1 for each) and bumped each up. It was quick but fairly effective as long as you don't push the saturation to a point that "bleeds" everywhere.

Not sure what NLE you're using but it is obviously on a PC so this may not help much.

Blaine...thanks so much. I do want vibrant colors. I cant stand the washed out muddy look to some of my shots. I have Premiere Pro 1.5...and I believe it has a 3 way color corrector. So, I'm definitely going to try this...

Thanks for your time and advice!
Rick
