The idea was introduced before but I believe nothing came out of it so far : let's each of us PAL users shoot a very short sequence illustrative of the country/city we live in. Let's make it symbolic, easily identifiable (e.g., I'd shoot the Eiffel Tower, a Sydney resident would shoot the harbor and the Opera, and so on), and let's make it artistic if we can... ;) You can choose to have only one shot in your sequence, or several.

Everybody shoots in F6 with the settings you want. Maximum length of the sequence : I'd say 15 seconds as there are quite a few of us.

If you'd like to participate, email me at monglane@wanadoo.fr when you're done with your sequence and I'll tell you how and where to upload it. I'll put all the sequences together in a short movie so our U.S. and Canadian friends can see it, and then maybe they can give us a little tour of their continent as well...

very nice idea. i hope to get my DVX soon, but 15 seconds...wow, that´s short...i live in the huge city of innsbruck with mountains around me that are bigger than the eiffel tower.... ;D

i will follow the progress. great idea!
also interested in the US/Canda stuff. i am sure there is more than LA, NYc and Miami (that´s what we see on TV)....

Sounds like an interesting project. But like alpi said, 15 seconds is a very short time to give a fair picture of something like this. I would say make it 30 seconds for each place.

Anyway, great idea!

I can take some nice shots here in england. (provided it isn't raining, of course!)

Last saturday I was going to shoot some nice places, but, unfortunately it was raining.

Hey Fidel,

For the moment, there's no specific deadline... More PAL shooters are joining the project every day. There will be a deadline, of course, but just not quite yet. The more we are in the end, the better, so let's all of us who are already on board keep this thread alive and give it some visibility for any newcomers who might be interested... :D

As far as rain is concerned... well, don't they say it's an integral part of the English way of life ? ;) Some rainy footage will be interesting, too !

Anyway, I'm glad you decided to join the project...

Yes rain is integral part of the English way of life.
This weather sucks. One day you have sun, the next day you have snow or rain. You may even get all the seasons in one day.
It is very unpredictable.
Yesterday, I could have gotten a nice shot in the rain, but my brother was talking too much on the phone and I ended up forgetting.

Anyway, I'll start shooting the stuff.

Do you want us to upload the 30 secs of footage at full resolution?

Yes. That should be around 5 megabytes or so. Everything is in the guidelines you should have received by now.

I would love to get into the project.
Just that i don´t have clear the purpuse. Or the meaning.
We could think in more ideas. I don´t see filming the Eiffel tower, or the arc of triumph as a very original thing.
It could turn on like a turistic guide.
I wonder if we could think in more ideas.
Time (30 seconds) it´s ok. More will be better but it will be difficult to handle for a internet upload.

All the countries have common issues that coul be explored.
Like tryng to portrait the contrast in the cities. 15 seconds of the richest part of Madrid/and 15 seconds more from the poverty. And that from all the countries involved...

Just thinkin out loud.
I really would like to see a good discussion about the themes that can be filmed.
The result can be great, but we need a theme. We could even choose a theme for every month and did the same thing every month. Each month one person will organised the footage.

Antoher theme could be
"thirty second of the solitude/ lonelyness in a city"

Or get a time like 12 at night. And film some footage from each city at that exact hour.

Or, Monglane starts at 12:00 in France; Fidel continues with material film at 12:00:30'' to 12:01 in London... (i think that would be 11 in some other parts like France), I shoot Madrid footage from 12:01:00 to 12:01:00 and....

Of course the same day.

Travis,

The "theme" for now is : Show us your city/country. If you wish to show us Madrid as a rich/poor contrast thing, it's a good idea and it's entirely up to you...

For the time being, and since this is a first project, let's not be too ambitious... :D If this one works out fine, like it looks it will, then maybe we will move on to more "structured" or "themed" movies. But thinking now about what those could be is a good thing, and your ideas are always very welcome ! Keep them coming ;D

Is every shooter supposed to edit together his 30 seconds complete with music and everything, or is this done later on?

Hello Johan, and welcome aboard !

Every shooter is supposed to go to picture-lock with their 30 seconds, yes, but please don't include any music as that will have to be added later on (more on this in the guidelines I've just emailed to you).

Hey guys I have filmed some stuff this weekend, but since I am still getting used to the white balance on the DVX, I got some crappy shots. I got some nice ones too.
