I must preface with everything went well. Why? Because we're PROS boys and girls.
Long story short...I have a heads up for all the Wedding Videogs out there.
TIP FOR TODAY:
Make sure...I repeat...MAKE SURE you have enough time to setup. Now, this might seem elementary but you need to ask the questions at the consult.
WHAT TIME ARE YOU LOADING IN AND SETTING UP THE CHURCH?
WHAT TIME WILL THE COORDINATOR BE THERE?
IS THE CHURCH OPEN TO YOU FOR THE ENTIRE MORNING PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY?
WHAT IS THE CLOSEST SCHEDULED EVENT PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY?
Here's the scenario:
Wedding is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
My crew and I arrive at Noon.
Catholic Wedding...Catholic Church...Confirmation Mass is scheduled to begin at noon...STARTS LATE...GOES LATE...GOES 50 minutes late.
Now...I can setup Camera 3 in the Balcony while another shooter is with the Bride. But I still have to setup Camera 2 and The Jib. Yes boys and girls that's how we roll here in the Film Capitol of the world. One of my secrets is out...I drag the K/12 to the event.
Nehow, shorten the story. I get entrance to the church approximately 2:15pm. Remember Ceremony was to begin at 2pm. Now...the priest and the church coordinator are rushing us. WE NEED TO START!! LINE EVERYBODY UP!!
Thankfully, my coordinator is awesome and stood her ground for the couple. Anyhow, I didn't get to do a final debrief before the Ceremony. Crew had their itineraries and primary objectives but other than that it was all improv.
Of course our Ceremony went late...and then they tried to rush us out because another wedding was scheduled for 4pm. So we got the evil eye...so what. It took some time to strike. Everyone grabbed something and we escaped to the Reception.
For all you L.A. folks it was a 2pm in Culver and then a 5:30pm guests enter at the Reception in El Segundo WHEW!!! By the by...all my footage looks awesome and I shall be cutting today.
THE MORE YOU KNOW...
