A very easy little "learning to use Pro" question - thanks!

Sorry this is such a trivial (or noob) question but I've used Elements proficiently for some time and have been learning to edit w/Pro (cs3) recently. It's all good, but sometimes I run into those "little conveniences" that I got very used to in Elements, missing in Pro... or, perhaps I haven't found them yet.

One is- When I place my clips on the timeline, I love in Elements that it places a checkmark next to that clip in my list of media so I know that clip is currently on the timeline. So far, I haven't seen that in Pro...there is no indication that I can see in the media bins that it's used on the timeline...and I'm just sure there must be somewhere... so where?

Another is- in the Effects window, the transitions available are only shown to me as names and no thumbnail of it when I click on it. Is that because the assumption is I should know what every transition is by the name already? Well, I enjoy in Elements that I can see what each one does without having to bring each one into my timeline. Can I do this with Pro?

Thanks.

ok, while I'm waiting for someone to chime in with assistance... here's another one - where's my "funnel out" video transition that I got so used to and enjoyed in Elements?

There must be some way to add to my library of transitions in Pro, right?

(I'll just keep going as I find little changes between Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro... because these things are really noticed by those of us making the transition! Whichever issue you can address even if not all of them, please feel free!)

oh yes...another! In Elements, I can pull a clip onto the timeline, right click on it, and with ONE click, Delete The Audio off the clip. It seems in Premiere Pro, there is one extra click... right click to "Unlink" and then delete audio. Why would Pro offer downgraded efficiency in any way? OR, am I missing a faster way?

(Thanks for addressing any or all of these tiny issues!)

As far as I know, there is no "check" that gets placed next to the clip. I could be wrong though, so someone else might be better to chime in on this but as far as I know, there's no feature like that.

Also, there is no thumbnail that will show you the transition. I guess you're supposed to know what it does already. I guess just mess around with them and see what they do. You'll probably remember most of them.

I usually never unlink clips. If you don't need the audio, bring it into the preview window and press the little button that looks like a film strip and speaker. Click it until you only see the film strip without the speak. That will give you video with no audio.

Also if you just need the audio, click until only the speaker is present, then drag that to the timeline. That will give you audio only.

Or, in the timeline, you could just hold ALT while you click and drag, and it will only effect the clip that you're clicking and dragging on. For example, if clips are linked, normally if you drag the edge of the video, it will bring the edge of the audio with it. If you hold ALT however, it will only drag the video and leave the audio as is.

Paul..
Yeah! I'm thrilled to learn about that little button in the preview window to toggle A/V. Perfect! I guess I may have figured out what that button was eventually..but never when you're LOOKING for the answer to a question, right?

Thanks for the insight on what seems trivial, but isn't when it comes to always editing efficiently!

On the "checkmark" a used clip, I have since discovered that in the icon view in the clip library, it shows a little symbol which seems to indicate usage on the timeline. Saved my butt to find that. Now, would just like someone to tell me if there's a way to have that indicated in the list view.

Clip Useage shows in two places in the bin. "Video Useage" is a column in the Project Window List view and the other is the little twirl down triangle next to the preview window in the Project Window.. If you have two or more useages you can go to the one you select from here by clicking on it.

There are short cut keys that control "TAKE": Video/Audio ...Only Video....Only Audio
