A trail angel?

In 2006 I went on a long distance hike and one day I took a picture of the trail and a weird orb looking thing shows up on the picture.



I shot it with the Nikon D50. Anybody ever see anything like it before? Is it just because of the flash. I'm just curious.
 
I'm going with Spook Light. Originally from Joplin, MO, it must be wintering down in Florida.
 
Piece of pollen?

I do find it amusing that when we witness something we can't explain we find the least rational explanation for it. :)
 
It was mid march so it was too early for pollen and beetles and I know there was nobody with a light in front of me. It was taken in North Carolina some where right outside the smoky mountains. The sun was going down and I think I was testing the flash. I do know that I had flash on. It just looks so weird, doesn't it?

This could actually be the explanation... It very well could be a small object flying (or floating) by near the flash of the camera. Flash goes off> lights it up> lack of DOF in photography give's the illusion of it being larger than it actually is. "Objects in mirror are closer..."

That's my guess.


EDIT: you beat me. Yes, you had the flash on. I can tell by the picture.
