A Solution to Some Exporting Issues...

I spent the last two days trying to export a 10 minute video into MPEG2 format. Each time I exported it (both with "Quicktime Conversion and Compressor) my video ended up having a lot of "studdering" and random pixelation/checkerboard things appear throughout the video. I adjusted bitrates and other things but nothing helped.

Luckily, I stumbled onto a solution.

I did a "print to video" export and captured the video back on my MiniDV cassette. I was planning on bringing it over to a friend's house who has a nice PC with Premiere. However, just out curiosity, I ended up capturing the whole video back onto my Mac. I then plopped it into a Sequence and exported it (using compressor). And thankfully, it looks PERFECT now. No studdering, no checkerboard pixelation, just a beautiful video!

I have no idea WHY it was doing that, but I wanted to pass this along to you all in case you had any similar problems. And if any of you experts know what the problem was, feel free to let me know!

I usually find it best to export the sequence using a self-contained Quicktime Movie and taking the results to Compressor (actually I prefer Canopus ProCoder on PC). I had some issues with pixelation too, which were because I faded to "nothing" in the sequence, instead of using a slug. As soon as I replaced nothing with slug the pixelation in the mpg2 file was gone.

The pixelation and studdering I was having was throughout the entire sequence, not just in fadings. I noticed it was particularly bad when I had brought in other files such as ones from Motion, LiveType, and so on.
