A small question on clips fade markers joining up on timeline.

Hi,

Im having a problem when i add a new clip to my timeline sequence, the last clip of which has a fade added at the end, The fade disappears (on even the new clip if i added a fade in before touching it to the last existing clip) and it turns into a cut if i bring the new clip to touch the end of the last clip already sitting on the timeline sequnce. If i then even seperate them the fades have gone. They turn into just cuts. This doesnt seem to be a bug or something but rather a preference or setting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

There's probably a tiny bit of overlap between them. On the first clip, before you put the next one on, move the end of it back and forth a couple of times to make sure it really ends exactly on the frame line. Do the same for the front end of the clip you're moving into place (though if you're just bringing it in for the first time, it should be fine).

Hi David,

It turned out to be just what you said. The clip wasnt exactly ending on a frame line. How is this possible ? Any video consists of a fixed number of frames right. So when you take it onto a track which works in frame steps, theres no chance one could end between frames. Or is it possible during drag trimming to cut between 2 frame line. Thats equal to cutting a frame in half right ? Does vegas allow this, or should i have some setting on in the future to avoid this anomaly.

Thanks

Because the camera calculates the frame rate slightly differently from what the timeline does. On some footage from some cameras, you never see the problem.

Should never be a problem if you bring in footage through the trimmer.

One thing to keep in mind -- the tiny, down-pointing black triangles in the video clips are the frame lines within the video.

Same thing has happened to me many times. Never spent much time trying to figure it out but the framerates not being exact is a logical culprit.
