A Shout Out!

I have a very small side business for video editing and converting peoples tapes to DVD. I would like to start recording events, maybe small things first like high school auditorium events, plays, etc until I can get some experience and practive in, then perhaps move to wedding shoots. When converting peoples tapes for them, the audio is already on the tape and there is only so much you can do with it. But with shooting, I could see that I needed to really read up on audio for video, as I knew absolutely nothing about the suibject. I came across this forum when researching equipment, man what a resource! I have been reading hours and hours every night for like the last week.....my head really hurts. Although my knowledge is still very basic Im sure, I have learned a ton and wanted to thank everybody for their input. Right now I'm still researching what equipment I will need. I've only bought a few pieces so far, two SE300b's with CK91 capsules (had a good deal on ebay) and I just ordered a beachtek dxa-8. I'm planning on purchasing a ck98 shotgun capsule, a CF recorder, and of course the camera, I'm leaning heavily towards the DVX100 and the Canon XH-A1

Good to see you are doing your homework. The next step is to go into to your closest sound shop and talk with someone who knows the stuff, and they can steer you in the right direction for your budget. Where are you located. I know pretty much all the main shops across the country, and the people that work there.

Salt Lake City. Inkleys has a pretty good store, but haven't really been scouting shops out :) I order mostly from B&H.

Ah. B&H isn't going to be much help. They are nice if you don't need support, but they really don't know the gear at all.
