A shoot in China

We are being asked to do a shoot in China. We are trying to figure out if we should rent gear or bring our own and if there are any issues with transporting cameras and lights. This is new to me.
 
I've been living in rural China for about a year and a half, and I'm about to shoot a feature length film. I basically brought most of my equipment from the states, but I did buy some softboxes from the internet. Ebay has a lot of sellers from China so shipping is often faster and cheaper. I'm just shooting with a GH1 so my gear is really portable. Also, you won't be able to transport model guns by train/bus since each station has an x-ray machine. They don't care if it's a toy or not. If you speak or know someone who speaks Chinese, things will be a million times easier.
