A Scanner Darkly

From some of the interviews I've read this one is supposed to stay true to the real story, instead of just pull some pieces here and there.

I know they're still scrambling to get it done, hope it turns out as good as the trailer looks!

Looks like this one has been in the works for ages. I watched the trailer over a year ago.....

looks great. I love linklater's work. He seems to be an artist first and a businessman second....a difficult task in today's film climate.

Is there a ****ING release date yet?

I guess rotoscoping takes a long time.

I'm anxious to see this one. I get a little irritated when they start their ads SO far in advance.

I've been a bit irritated with Linklater lately. But I will definitely be seeing this.

charlie kaufman wrote a script for this before it was attached to linklater. and, of course, it is really good. when linklater signed on they dropped the kaufman script and linklater adapted it. here's a link to kaufman's script:

waking life isn't really early linklater, is it? slacker, dazed and confused, before sunrise?

Anything that totes the sounds of M83 is definitely on my watch list.

Been waiting for Scanner Darkly for two years, now. It's going to be great.

The look of this film is a HUGE improvement over Waking Life. I was really in love with the look of that film, although it's best watched with the sound off. The existential stuff was a little too pretentious for it's own good.

I saw the first 30 minutes of this and I really liked it. Very interesting story with bits of tweaker comedy.

Saw the trailer tonight at V for Vendetta. I loved Waking Life, love PK Dick, big fan of Linklaters and it has Woody Harrelson and Robert Downey, Jr.
This film is now in my top 3 most anticipated films of 2006.

1. The Fountain
2. Prairie Home Companion
3. A Scanner Darkly

Ravinesedge, I saw it over at Warner Bros. I'm a projectionist so I get to see a lot of stuff before it comes out.

Really enjoyed it. Alternatingly surreal, funny, and suspenseful. Saw the ending coming from pretty much a mile away, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Downey and Harrelson were hilarious. Also really enjoyed Rory Cochrane as Freck. Ryder and Keanu were good as well. Nicely put together.

I saw a rough of this on digiBeta, as well as a rough (near final) of his next movie, Fast Food Nation as I worked with some people for spots for both. Both screened at cannes, my sources tell me and were not well received. Though I wasn't there, so that is heresay.

My personal opinion is that both leave a lot to be desired. I didn't care about his roto work about 5 minutes in... it's boring and talky and everything you don't want a philip k dick story to be on screen. To me it was not as bad as Waking Life, but it was just fairly lame and flat. Fast Food Nation, if possible, is even worse. A bunch of bad improv acting and morals and ethics regurgitated nonstop... with Avril Lavigne in here feature debut. It's like dazed and confused meets super size me with the entertainment value of the afternoon news.

I dug School of Rock. Simple. Good morals. Fun. Entertaining. get back to that!

my two cents

just saw waking life for the first time and i really loved it. looking out for this one too, heard an interview with linklater on the alex jones radio show (who's also in both movies) and the film sounds quite interesting.

This was one of my favorite movies this year. I enjoyed it much much more than the movie I'd seen the previous night about pirates.

Saw the movie last Friday at an art house theatre, pretty decent crowd. I liked the movie. Great acting, but it felt a little slow at a couple points. I haven't read the book, but I felt like the movie wasn't quite dramatic enough.

Can anyone who's seen the movie and read the book comment on the adaptation?
