A rendering question

Rendering a 100k stream wmv file thats 45 mins long (41mb). I have a 4200 dual core amd, usually it renders in close to real time. This computer is offline and nothing was open but vegas 6. I closed the preview window before starting because I heard it will go faster. This file was the first I ever color corrected, it took 10 hours to render. When I checked system resources both cores were rendering at around 57%. Did it take that long because I color corrected and is there a way to get the cores to work at 100% ? Thanks

No ideas; 10 hours ?

Did you render only the region selected with the Selection Bar (Loop region) ?

That's bizarre.

Well, that certainly shouldn't happen. And with that processor, you should be getting better than real time with a basic render.

What kind of RAM do you have?

2 gig of 400 mhz , this was the first time its been that slow. IT was patriot generic ram , should I get better grade of ram does it make a difference.

Should be fine. Your system is very similar to mine.

I suggest you make SURE everything else is shut down and try it again. If it happens again, try re-installing Vegas.

General tip: whenever I get to the point of having to reinstall software (any software), I always try just reapplying the latest update. It usually takes less time, often fixes the problem, and rarely makes you go through any registration process again.

I also have a dual-core athlon 4200 and it normally uses 100% of both cpu's when rendering. The only time my cpu usage drops to 50% during rendering is when I use video plugins which aren't SMP optimized - which includes most (if not all) third-party plugins and the built-in Sony Film Effects. Assuming you're only using the Secondary Color Corrector, your problem must lie elsewhere.

Under Preferences, in the General Tab, make sure "Disable multi-processor AVI rendering" is NOT checked. Also check the Video tab and make sure "Maximum number of rendering threads" is greater than 1 (defaults at 4).

You could also open the Windows Task Manager during rendering (right-click taskbar and choose task manager) and check the processes tab to see if any other programs are "stealing" your CPU time.

As others have mentioned, reinstalling vegas is something worth trying as well.
