A quick look at Vegas 6

Good find! It definitely rocks. Looks like it's time for me to go multiprocessor and maybe add another monitor for the DVI out. With some luck, we'll see DVCPROHD and DVCPRO50 codecs added in 6.0b or 6.0c.
 
That was the first term I searched for in the article, and didn't find it. Which is very depressing.

If I don't hear a firm commitment from them about supporting it by the time the HVX is scheduled to be released, I'll be spending quite a bit of NAB time shopping for a new NLE.

Gary? Spot? Can you guys comment if DVCPRO-HD is even on the radar for Vegas?
 
Bailing out of Vegas would be really painful. I was going insane trying to use early versions of Premiere and finding Vegas was a revelation. I remember having the totally ridiculous idea that Vegas was a computer card gambling game. :cheesy: It would be weird after Vegas being pushed as format agnostic not to support DVCPROHD. The Cineform guy has mentioned possibly supporting an intermediate codec for DVCPROHD so I think it's just a matter of time until Vegas comes up with a codec solution. It seems like we're beyond the point where the HDV/DVCPROHD choice needs to be a zero sum game. The formats should be able to peacefully coexist. I'm sure the guys in Madison want to support every format that broadens the appeal of Vegas. Sony's proprietary fumblings already handed the portable music business to Apple--you'd think they'd have learned something about suppporting other standards.

This is also a concern of mine. I would want to upgrade to Vegas 6, but seeing as there's a good chance the HVX is my next camera, I might have to switch. This makes it even more painful because no NLE on the PC that I've used, apart from Vegas, I consider any good. I've had nothing but trouble with Avid and Premiere in the past. So I would be looking at moving to a Mac, which means more expense...Not something I want really.

I'm sure there'll be something, but who knows with the DVCPRO vs HDV thing :)

Would a petition to include DVCPRO-HD in Vegas 6 work? Do those things ever work? Gah! I don't want to leave Vegas!
 
Who knows. The Vegas site does have a suggestions area. I think though, that it'd be unlikely that they didn't add DVCPROHD, but I am concerned at how long it will take. For me, it just has to be at the most as long as it takes for the HVX to come out in New Zealand (crossing fingers my bank balance is big enough for the HVX)

Vegas has always been pretty good about making the software compatible with whatever camera technology is being introduced into the marketplace. I'd be really surprised if this was the exception.
