A question or two regarding step down lense adapters...

I was looking at .5 and .7 wide angle lens adapters on Ebay.
I notice the 52mm are quite a bit cheaper.

1. Is it worthwhile to buy a 52mm .5 or .7 lens adapter and use a 72mm to 52mm lens adapter on my DVX100A, or will I lose picture quality compared to buying a 72mm wide angle for my DVX100A?

2 Also, what brands are recommended? I see I can get a new 72mm .5x wide angle for around $110 on Ebay, but the brand name is Digital Optics. Are they any good?

Thanks in advance!

A 52mm wide angle will vignette on a DVX. Like looking thru a key hole, which might be what you want...

For my money, Century is the best, but if all you have is $110... I only use my .6 century about 3% of the time, for artsy wide angle shots. For me it's more about the effect, so if it were a little soft, I could live with it for the occasional shot.

I like lots of action shots where people are coming towards the camera, almost pushing the camera out of the way, sort of like in The Shield. I really like the look of it.

What wide angle will give you more picture on the right and left without vignetting much? .7?

Thanks for answering bud.

As was mentioned earlier, if you step down to 52mm you'll vignette no matter what. If you use a 72mm you probably won't vignette at all unless you stack filters on the wide angle lens. Lenses get wider as their decimal rating gets lower. A .3x would be extremely wide, whereas a .7 or .6 is a bit wider than the stock lens, but not that wide. You won't get a 'fish eye' effect from a .6 or .7.

.6 just barely starts to get "fisheye" (barrel distortion) .7 will just be nice and wide.
