A question about showreels

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this thread but I couldn't find a suitable page to make this thread.

I've just completed my undergraduate degree in Film and am going to create a showreel for applying to a job.

I'm unsure whether I should call it "[my name] University showreel" or "[my name] showreel". I feel that if I call it "[my name] University showreel" it may put off the employer as all the projects I've shown were student projects. But I don't know.

Does it matter what I call it as long as I've got something to show on what I've done in past video projects?

Never, ever, ever refer to anything as a "student project" or associate with a University when trying to get paid work. It will only hurt you.
 
As others have said, don't ever label things as "student". This is an industry based purely on talent (and who you know). No one cares what university you went to or if you even went to university. All that matters is the work.
 
+1 on leaving off "University" or "Student."

There are only two kinds of projects on your reel: "spec" projects that you paid for yourself, and "for hire" projects that were paid for by the client. You call a spec a spec, and on for hire projects, you refer to them by the agency or client who paid you.

Yep...you've left school...so no point in mentioning the University if you are out there trying to make a name for yourself.

And yeah...this ain't academics...nobody cares what school you went to
 
Okay, thanks. I won't include "University" and "Student".

But what about content? Does it matter if at least one of your video is a student project? And how many video projects is enough for a showreel? - I only have 3-4 projects which one of them is a student project.

it doesnt matter what project it is:

If its your best - put it on there - it may connect to someone who will give you a shot you never know.

Who you send your showreel is even more important than whats on your show reel

How about those potatoes!
