A question about making a DIY addapter

Hello all,

Well this is my first post and I have to say that the amount of info here at dvxuser is unreal. I've been looking at that monster post "Yes I am afraid I have another 35mm adapter" sticky and I thought I'd start a new thread with a couple of questions. (I've been reading through the other thread but I havn't found the answers).

First off I was wondering, since the original thread was started in 2006, if this is still the best option for a "home made" lens adaptor? And secondly, I have a Nikon D40X digital SLR camera... is there anyway I can adapt this so that I can use the lens I have for it? How do you keep the iris open, and can you adjust it? Its my understanding that some of the older lenses had a manual apature... is that what you need to use for these adaptors?

Also, I've seen that the Nikon f3 d screen is going for about $60 on ebay now. Is that reasonable? Is there a better/suitable replacement?

Thanks,
Brent

Your lens will work. I don't know about DSLR, but I do know on Canon lens, you have to adjust the iris before you take it off. Might be the same for Nikon lens. You do want a manual lens because it can be a pain to have to switch the lens back and forth to your DSLR to change the iris.

The D screen you're looking at, make sure you know what D screen you're getting. There are a few D screens out there. The prominent one everyone likes is the Red Dot D screen. It has a red dot on the black casing. Other D screens might have a grid or a dot centered in the middle. You want plain matte. Also, check into the Canon EE-s or EE-a screens. I don't like them personally, but a lot people have been using them.

Edweirdo's design is a good design, but it's not the best. There are at least a few dozen more ways to make a DIY 35mm adapter. Just have to find the one that's best suited for you.
