So many people seem to echo the sentiment that they're glad 2008 is over. Certainly CNN would lead us to believe that everyone ended up with a truly horrible year. But I can't say I feel the same way. I don't have a giant stock portfolio. I've been struggling as an artist for several years, and don't yet see the impact on my life or pocketbook. So I'm curious to hear why folks think 2008 sucked so much for them personally (apart from what they're hearing on the news is happening to others). A good chance to start a poll.

2008 was a good year for me and Sabi Pictures. We made bank professionally and tremendous strides creatively.

2008 rocked for me!

Yes I have a good amount of money in the stock market... yes it's worth less then half... but I'm 23 years old! It will be back up by the time I need it! (30-40 years from now?) :P

Anyway, 2008, I partied my ass off as a senior in college, shot many wonderful films that I am really happy with, graduated college, moved to LA, have worked with and met so many wonderful people there, gotten a kickass job that I really like, and have many prospect freelance jobs (on the side) coming in the new year..... and I am very optimistic about our decisions as a nation, as of late.

Sure things are down, but when I can't make movies anymore, that will be the day I will start to worry!

I heard it's going to get a little worse before better, but the stock market has slowly been rising and I'm going to party tonight, like it was 2007! lol

I'm not going to waste my youth worrying and being all pessimistic. I am young once, and this economy is not going to take the best years of my life away! :P

As Neil Diamond says: "Money talks, but it don't sing and dance and it don't walk."

The best investment is the one you make in yourself. Read a book, know your craft, and be good at it. People who know what they are doing get hired the most. Something I'm sure I read in a book somewhere. lol.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I like that.

08 was pretty good for us professionally. We picked up some new clients and are profitable (meaning there is still money in the bank) for the first time ever.

The only downside was the feature I have been working for 2 years to get off the ground fell apart due to lack of funding. But we'll take another crack at it.

Personally, any year above ground is a good one.

2008 was a mixed bag for me, good professionally, down personally. But the great thing about being a filmmaker is that we are optimists. That's why I love the people involved in it. I can't think of anything more optimistic than venturing out to make a film. The smart money is against it but we do it because we have to. It can break your heart, but we do it because we must. In the end, the worlds a better place for having people like us in it. So if 2008 wasn't what you had hoped, I say BALLS! In 2009 you will have some project where you are carrying a flag charging up some hill believ'n; and that's not a bad way to live.

Happy New Year to everyone on dvxuser!

2008 kicked ass for me too. My first son was born, wife got a killer raise, I got a 50k paying job doing what I love, younger brother got married, got my first HD tv, bought a new computer, wife got a new ride, best friend got a kick ass job, and two of my bestest friends who are more family than not BOTH got great jobs, though one has yet to start his. He's hired though and that is close enough for me.

Plus I landed a sweet gig with the director of The City is Mine to do visual effects, my first job of the sort.

Been a hell of a great year. All the bullsh!t and hype about how "bad" things are is just that. Actually it's less than that, just smoke with a purpose.

great professionally, though it could have been better with a few adjustments.....

Personal life wise, initially Amazing, then turned Horrid.... Picking back up though.... :)

Had a really interesting year... some tough personal things in my family... but that's life...

Business wise it was really cool.... I was involved in my first feature film production, and the future looks great for that film... and hope to do another in 2009 :) we'll see...

Each year is great... and hard, in it's own way.

I loved 2008. although it brought diffcult times in the family, the turmoil has shaped me into a stronger person. on the buisness in. i've made more money this year than in my intire life.

I'm not complaining about 2008.

Son was born in March; my wife got a job working from home to take care of said son; I'm staying plenty busy doing what I love; DP'd a feature; we're in some tough times for sure, but what doesn't kill us...

The bad outweighed the good and will have a lasting impact into 2009. But as long as I wake up every day I'm not going to complain........

2008 was a great year in many ways. Like…

Getting to know and work with people like Luis Caffesse and Drew Ott.
Starting work on a long-term documentary film project.
Spending two months in the Grand Tetons filming (and) flyfishing for an online series.

Looking forward to more in 2009.
