A PC/Editing Station Hardware Question

Hi guys,

Just about to invest in a new PC and I'm hoping that you guys are the ones to hand out sage advice in this regard. The last computer I bought, I really didn't spend what I should have done and less than 18 months later I am paying for it. So I am looking at spending a fair amount of money by my standards and wanted to know if I was heading in the right direction.

I intend to use it to edit with Adobe Premier Pro CS5 and maybe try to teach myself some After Effects stuff but nothing too taxing. I own a DVX100 but have recently fallen in love with shooting with DSLR's and would eventually look to editing HD footage.

I realize that I may be asking some silly questions but I have always had really kind people help me out in the past on this forum and I hope you forgive any glaring newbieness :)

Here is what I am looking at:

cpu i7 870
cpu heatsink noctua NH-u21P SE2 i5
Ram GSkill DDR3 PC3-12800 RipJaws
Zalman ram cooler
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P
FX 580 512MB Absolute
Power supply Coolermaster GX 650W
DVD Multi w/Light scribe
Tower coolermaster 690 Pure with firewire in the front
120mm Ultra Quiet Blue LED Case fan system
Custom anti dust mesh weaving for vents
Porfessional Cable management for maximum air flow

I already have a Seagate Baracuda and 1TB Samseung HDD

I am kind of already at the threshold of my budget but if there is anything you think I should definitely be including or upgrading I would much appreciate your input.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers in advance guys.

Ditch that DVD recorder and install BluRay. It's 2010.

If you plan on using CS5 for HD work, this machine is way under spec. HD is not SD. This is a great SD machine.

Here's what I just built. Working great. Best PC editing station I've ever used.

Hey Roger that setup looks awesome! Don't mean to get off topic but I just built a new PC editing station myself this past week. Here are the specs (I'm using HD video with CS5 Production Premium Suite):

-Intel i7 860 2.8GHz Quad Core Processor 95W with corresponding Intel Heatsink
-ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
-16GB of RipJaws 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM (4x4GB)
-nvidia quadro fx 3800 graphics card
-950W Power Supply
-Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD for running Windows 7 Pro operating system
-2x 1TB Western Digital Internal Drives
-2x 2TB Hitatchi Internal Drives
-2TB Western Digital Internal Drive
-Cool Master HAF 912 Mid-Tower Case
-LG Blue Ray Burner
-Amtron Technologies PCIe P2 Card Reader
-2x 200mm Case Fans
-140mm Case Fan
-3x 120mm Case Fans

and much more to add to that... needless to say working with raw 1080 P2 files between Premiere and After Effects CS5 is a dream!

Blu-Ray is so 2010, streaming is the future and now. More people have access to streaming HD content than having Blu-Ray players.

So after listening to a few people I am now considering the following changes

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

nVidia GeForce GTX 470

What would bring this up to HD standards?

Cheers :)
