Scenario-
Shooting the sun and wanting to achieve some nice lens flares. Camera is the Fs7. I have as much ND ( 1/64th ) dialed in as is possible on the built-in filter wheel. I take the ISO down to 800 ISO. That is as low as it will go. But I am still down around a f/11 and I want to be someplace closer to wide open. The only tool I have remaining to get closer to wide open is an external ND filter. But the ND filter changes the nature of the light flare from the sun. And now I am getting flare not from the lens but from the interaction between the front element of the lens and the ND filter.
What to do?
Would an ND filter in a matte box make any difference compared to a screw-on ND filter? The lens is pointed directly at the sun. So it doesn't seem that a matte box would make any difference since the issue regards light that is by intent hitting the lens. Not light coming in from the side.
