A.Pack Errors

I am running Tiger at the moment, and am constantly getting OS Errors with A.Pack...

this only seems to happen on longer encodes.. I encode several shorter files and they worked fine... but I cannot get through an entire file that is 21min long.... keeps crashing on me.

has anyone else experienced this? Seems bit odd, I would assume that A.Pack is a carbon App by the type of dialog box that pops up when I get an error...

anyone know of a work around for this?

call me suspicious, but these problems, I think are not fully accidental. of course I have nothing to prove it with, but you see, DVDSP4 gets you the compressor 2.0 with the dolby encoding built in..so you can run to the store for a smoother solution.

but don't do that, not really needed.

try re-exporting your qt ref file as "audio only" . this is a totally new qt ref file, just try and make it audio only..that worked for me. and then encode with that. otherwise, just give the file you've been using another try or two or three or four. the audio only trick should work.

of course, I got sick of doing that and bought the upgrade..but I'm not particulary happy about feeling forced into it. everything else on my systems should have been clean and fully up to date, so what screwed me up were the os updates or something, dunno.

you could try reinstalling whatever has a. pack. I think it is on a separate disk that came with dvdsp3. i couldn't find mine, so I was screwed.

I have DVDSP 3 loaded on my system and I don't have A.Pack anywhere! I have searched my computer several times and its not on there. Now I did get a copy of DVDSP from and I made sure to put all of the contents of the original disc onto my copy.

well, then it could've come bundled with FCP 4 on that disc or as a standalone disc with either app. I don't remember, but I couldn't find the disc anyway ( if it comes on the disc). the dolby audio files are worth the effort though..more compatible in dvd players than .aiff

I never use QT reference files... they take far more time to work with.. since the Data is scattered on the harddrive, all over different sectors, that is a lot more seek time for your hard drive, which adds up when encoding.

I was using the PCM(AIFF) file generated by Compressor... so it shouldn't have been a problem.. I did find a strange thing though..

I tried to use a batch list to do the encoding, and still got the same errors... but the file had already been created.. and worked fine.... strange...

I should just upgrade to FCP Studio.... anyone got some $$$ they wanna lend me
