IMO, there´s a problem with CC books: the complete lack of lessons that teaches you how to achieve certain looks.
Ok, you´ve read about the difference between levels and curves, how to 'read' a vectorscope, what RGB means... and you still use MB´s NEO preset everytime you need a cold greenish image?
Other thing I always think about is the old film-look formula: s-curve (or levels or brightness & contrast increasing) + some color adjustments. Is it the ONLY way to achieve a filmic image? What about the MTV clips without crushed blacks and yet very filmic? Why nobody talk about it?
Even technical articles, they tend to discuss about the colorist´s career or if the scanned files are 2k or 4k. When they talk about colors, it´s only a concept: "well, the director wanted it very saturated and bright because the movie was shot in miami", and that´s all!
If I´m mistaken and this kind of information is out there, please, tell me where can I find.
