A new mic in town.

There is a relatively new (couple years I believe) manufacturer making a mic I think people here might find interesting. The guy is John Peluso. After doing mic repair for awhile, he seems to be making nice microphones which are based on popular vintage and modern designs.

Of most interest to the users here is probably the Peluso CMC6 which is based on the Schoeps CMC series mics, and has 4 capsule options. The mic seems to be around $300. The capsules are all around $100. There seem to be pretty good reviews but again, I have never heard this mic or used it.

From the information I think the best way to describe the mics might be Chinese-hybrid mics. The tubes, some of the electronics and the capsule mounts are made in China, and transformers and final capsule manufacture are done in the USA.

Personally I can't vouch for any of the Peluso mics yet, but I did just order the Peluso 2247 LE, which is based on a Telefunken/Neumann U47 and I have pretty high hopes for it.

If you have any interest, Sound Pure stocks these mics. I have purchased a decent amount of stuff from them in the past ( 2x Neumann TLM103, 2X Neumann KM84i) and they are solid. Supposedly the support from Peluso is excellent as well.

not so new for tapers and music recordings , it would be nice to comper it to the mbho and akg 480 or even the octava ,
the good thing it has low cut filters and attunuation directly on the mic body .

True, I think tapers have been using these for a while. I haven't really seen any reviews that compare them to other hypers, especially with emphasis on dialogue which would be interesting.

I'd be curious to hear more about how well they stack up for dialogue, myself. It looks like it could be another inexpensive option for those of us without the Schoeps cash.

Just a small update, the Peluso 2247 LE arrived, and it is really really excellent. Having never actually used a real Neumann U47 I cannot claim to say that it sounds like the real thing, but it does sound great, and it seems to have "that sound". It is really shockingly different from my trusty Neumann TLM103. Night and day difference really.

So, now who wants to try out the CEMC6? :)

Edit: Oops, its CEMC6.

I'm really tempted to get the CEMC6. I've been looking for something a little nicer than the Oktava and the Peluso seems like a good value. I also like the switchable 10/20 db attenuation and the 75/150 roll-off switch.

I'm curious how the Peluso is with handling noise. If no BBG is necessary for interiors, the total price would be pretty competitive with an Oktava.

why do you use BBG for interiors , what is wrong with good foam .
puelso looks like anice mic the only what buddering me if it sounds in the same way :-)
