A Music video shot on the Canon Xh a1 & the Sgpro + RedrockMicro mattebox & shoulder.

The music video was shot for the Belgian rockband KEEFMAN, the song is "Magere Meisjes" = "Skinny girls" in English. The video was shot on a deserted leasure/holiday facility.

As said in the title I used my Canon xh-a1 with an Sgpro 35mm adapter combined to a redrock mattebox & shouldermount. Feedback is welcome as always...

cool video! How does it feel with the Redrock shoulder mount? It seems super front heavy...
I'm thinking about getting one, but I heard it's not that confortable. What's your experience with it?

No personal experience here but, I assume the counter-balance weights would help tremendously towards the comfort level, particularly the negatives due to the front heavy camera.

Thanks for all the support here....

I mostly used my Nikon 35mm f2 lense, I hired a Panasonic 8’ HD field monitor but rarely used it for the exterior shots. I mostly used the magnifying trick and adjusted my focuss in that way. In some shots I lost some focuss on the subject while moving around but I think it ads a little "rock & roll" feeling to the vid.

-to jerryrain - indeed sometimes the black bars on the side of the image showed up because I didn't zoom enough, at first I wanted to correct that in post, but then again I like the imperfect & rough look of it combined to the rather rough music.

- about the frontweight of the shouldermount - It's a fact that it takes some muscles to shoot a whole day only using the shouldermount and it would be great to add some counter-balance weights to solve this...Luckily most shots for music video's don't take very long so there was always plenty of time to get those arms well rested while preparing for the next one...

To tell you the truth it was the 1st music video I shot, and I learned a lot. We had close to no budget, but everybody was well motivated to help as we were well prepared. So far reactions on the video are good, starting next week it will show on 2 Belgian Music TV stations... cross the fingers it gets picked up by the audience.

Thanks, xha8 !

It was shot as HDV1080 at 50i framerate...from what I read on other posts it might have looked better shot at 25p, to achieve a more filmish look. Still I'm not sure about all this, so if anybody reads this and has a clear insight in the usage of framerate, please share your wisdom ...

In the meantime I've read all about the usage of framerates, so that's been sorted out.

Next week I'll be shooting my 2nd music video and a 3rd one is in pre-production. Too bad the song for the 1st one isn't turning out to be a hit in Belgium, radiostations claim the music is too loud. It could have been great publicity for our new founded production company ... 'giving up' is a verb we have banned from our dictionnaries so... time to move on to the next one and use the lessons we have learned from the past!

I'll keep you all posted when our next music video gets released, in the mean time feedback is welcome as always...

Take care all
