A little help with Declaring Camera gear for Overseas Travel.

Gotta haul two REDs to Japan and I'm having a major issue with this Carnet thing. Mostly because none of the stuff has serials on it.

What do I have to declare? Not EVERY single little piece, correct? Monitor Arms, RED LCDs? Those things don't have serial numbers.

Has anyone done this recently that can help out? Thanks in advance.

When I went to Panama 2 years ago, I did the whole carnet thing.

I listed EVERYTHING, and if it didn't have a serial #, I just used "n/a" as the #.

It is a huge PITA.

Kholi, what Matt said. I took a bunch of stuff to the U.K. and had a Carnet. Total PITA but if you don't do it, it can cost you some serious money and major hassle, here and abroad. Especially with $100k worth of RED stuff. If items don't have serial numbers, you just write a description. Also, make sure they stamp you at LAX at the Bradley Terminal before you leave, then get it stamped in Japan before you get back. As I said, total PITA but you have to do it.

Not sure how much it will cost you, I think I paid $700.00 for about $20k worth of stuff that I took.
