A job I did last week..

I usually don't share my work here but I did this smaller job last week
for the Pirates. I guess during ball games they shoot hot dogs out of guns
to the fans. So this video is played on the jumbotron right before.

Its so hillarious to me I wanted to share.

*tech notes:
Recorded to a Sound Devices 788T
Choir was mic'ed using 2x Schoeps MK41's in an X/Y array
Preacher was mic'ed with a AKG414EB (C-12 capsule)
Intro was a Mk41 recorded to camera through a Sound Devices 302 (varicam 2700)

I had about an hour to set up before the choir arrived
but once they got there I only had about 8 mins for a sound check
and about 20 mins to record the tracks..and then spin it around to
be a playback system for the "video" side of things.
They blasted through the video side just as fast.
Edited the next day and up on the jumbotron the following.

Sweet! And very funny. Was there a live band there?

No, it was actually supposed to be just a choir, no music and no preacher.
I actually got paid to go on a scout the week before (rare)
because they were concerned with everything involved.

When we arrived (in a VERY VERY rough side of town)
they surprised us with the "music".
The preacher guy did it on a keyboard and all kinds of things were
out of phase if you summed it mono. Lovely.

Because field recorders dont have the function of playing back AND recording
at the same time (like the typical music recorder)
on location I actually used my iphone to playback at the same time
as recording the live mics, recording everything to the recorder at the same time live and
send just the music to a PA system I put in the null of the x/y mics.

I've used the iPhone in this situation once before and it has an amazingly
clean output. Played it right out of my email from a file I got sent just earlier
in the day. Hows THAT for technology ;)

We were only there for a few hours, it was a very quick low budget gig
but it just cracks me up hearing a choir from an extremely tough side
of the city singing about "catching some meat".
