Any recommendations for a good tripod/fluid head with the DVX?
One recommendation from a PD170 user was
DS10 Solo DV Alloy System

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks....

I like my head slow and smooth.

I like my bogen 503 but I hear it's not terribly good. But it's not much more expensive than the 501, which everyone I know who has one generally complains about. If you're looking at a 501, shell out the extra bucks to go 503 and it'll be worth it.

I dropped $300 on my Manfrotto setup. Can't remember the model #s, but the tripod was $100, and the Fluid head was $200. I shopped around for months, asking all the pros I knew, and this was the result. I don't know exactly what you're using it for, but one thing to think about is what you're going to be filming. I tape concerts, weddings, and seminars, so I had to make sure to get a tripod that could see over everyone's heads in a crowd.

Good luck.

I use a Libec DV22 and I'm very happy with it (especially the carrying bag it comes with which is a life saver). It's solid, takes a beating and has settings to balance front and back heavy cameras. AND it's fairly reasonably priced so it's not the end of the world when you run over it with your car or have to use it as a weapon to fend off brain eating zombies

you can see the tripod (and me) at the very end of this video we made at the Vancouver International Auto Show:
