A Good Case (Pelican, Storm, etc) for a Rode Blimp?

I'm looking for a good protective case to store and ship a Rode NTG-3/Blimp. The 1510 or 1550 Pelicans seems okay if the Blimp sits diagonally in the case. I want to keep it small as possible. Has anyone any suggestions?

Cheers,
Peter

Pelican 1600 with padded dividers for me.

Fits a schoeps rycote blimp, a sanken shotgun rycote blimp

2 softies, 4 mic mounts, hardcases for 2x schoeps, sanken. tons of other smaller stuff.
I think i got it on ebay a few years back for like $100 bux or so.

I have both Pelican & Storm cases; they're both great. I like the Storm latches better because they're not as primal as the Pelican. The Pelican can sometimes be difficult to open; on the other hand, that's one of the reasons Pelicans are good, they stay shut. Either way you can't go wrong.

My 2 cent Suggestion: Find the least expensive and size to carry extra stuff: cable, furry, etc.

I do like Matt's idea, a big ole hunking PVC pipe! ... but it needs to have clearance for the handle, who wants to take that off all the time?: it'd loosen up over time.

The Pelican 1510 seems a good fit. The Rode blimp is 50cm long with furry and the Pelican is 50.1 (!!) wide so it would fir quite snugly. I'll check out the Storms.

Cheers,
Peter

I think you're going to want more than 1mm of clearance. The case is a whole lot less effective if you can't get any foam between the blimp and the side of the case.

100mm sewer pipe , fitted with a screw cap at the opening and a cap at the end , cut a 1inch slot for the handle to run in and if the od is the same as rycote there is just enough clearance to slide the assembly in and out with good protection / weight properties. Wack it in a cardboard box with packing and there you have it , much lighter than wasting a pelican case, IMO.
