I don't know what the point of that statement is. Who cares and what good does it do anyone. The only thing that should matter to an artist is creating his best work NOW. If he's luckily, his art is appreciated in his own time. If not, it may be discovered later. Or not. Doesn't change the fact is still has to be made. Today. An artist is lucky if his work is popular enough to even be seen by anybody decades later, let alone get called dated.
