A friend gave me Vegas Movie Studio...

...to play around with. I'll begin post production on my documentary in 2-3 months and will be attempting to edit it myself (a first for me).

My plan is to purchase Vegas 7 for the editing. Will learning some of the basics on Movie Studio help, or should I just wait until I get the Vegas 7? I would assume since they are from the same "family" there are similiarities.

What are the major differences between the two (other than one is consumer, the other professional)? What will I NOT be able to do with the Movie Studio that I can do with Vegas 7?

Thanks for your help!

24p editing is something that's lacking with Studio. I'm pretty sure about that.

It should work great for getting used to the interface. I would recommend diving in so that you can get used to the way Vegas operates.

Thanks! Yeah, I forgot to mention that the doc was shot with the DVXb, 24pa.

But, I have other footage I can work with to learn.

I think you'll find that everything works pretty much the same. Studio just lacks a few of the high end features that Vegas has. It's really a good editor for the price.
