A Fresh Aesthetic

Hey dvxusers,

My name is Matthew Velazquez and I am an undergraduate student at the UofA in Tucson. I wanted to share with you guys a project I have been working on that features short cinematic documentaries on current science. I would love to get some feedback from you guys if you have any. Here is my website- moderndaydocs.com

Best wishes,

Matthew Velazquez

Hi Matthew,

thanks for sharing. I found that there are several shots in each piece that are very compelling! Some stunning landscapes and nature closeups too!

If if you're looking for some constructive criticism, I'd say perhaps work on your audio. The narration was a bit cramped in terms of frequency range, sometimes even sounding as if it were peaking. A fuller, less tinny sound would be much smoother to the ear. And also the way you brought the on-location interview sound in and out sometimes was a bit...hmmm...how should I say it...not as carefully as it could have been.

Also, the wide-screen matte size you used can be fine for those large landscapes, but for the talking head shots sometimes it left a lot of dead space. It may be a conscious decision in your part, but it didn't always feel good for me. Although that's just my opinion. Lastly, I'd say that it's not crazy to switch matte sizes within a single work. Mess around with it for yourself.

Keep it up!!!!
