A final question on Audio!

Ok...so I've been shooting a doc and a guy today told me to do something different with sound. We have been very simple...running our ME66 through channel 2 and switching everything to that channel. In the front of the camera both switches are turned to mic and on the side they are both put to channel 2. When we capture, everything sounds good before we attempt any audio sweetning.

Should i be doing something else...it is a doc, so film-like sound is not so important, dont get me wrong - we do want high quality sound. But should I be recording two tracks, one through the boom in Channel 1 and another through the onboard mic in channel 2? Also, if I split the channels i know longer have stereo sound in Channel 2 with the boom?

Sorry for the basic question, but just want to clarify everything.

Re: A final question on Audio!

if you have any benefit from the camera mike - why not , if you dont - run 2 separate tracks with the same mike when one is high and the secend few db less for unplesent moments when you ruine your sound since you dont do qualifide job :-), use soundman and all the nessery products to impruve your sound chain
