A few questions about editing

I have a few questions about editing. Let's compare progressive footage to interlaced. For example dvx100b vs gl2.

From what I understand when editing it must be done interlaced? So even if I shoot 30p with the DVX it must be captured interlaced and than deinterlaced when complete?

If this is true. Comparing GL2 footage to DVX footage, would the DVX footy have better resolution because it was actually progressive and when deinterlaced the footy knows exactly where to go?

PS I'm not an editor, I'm just trying to understand everything a little better

No, you can edit progressively, you don't have to edit interlaced. Well, I guess it depends on what editor you're using of course, but most every prosumer-priced editor (from EDIUS to Avid to Vegas to Premiere Pro to FCP) can handle progressive footage as progressive.

You don't want to ever de-interlace progressive footage, that just results in de-stroying your footage.
