A few questions about 35mm adapters

I'm still trying to decide between the HVX200 or the HPX170, but whichever i choose, i eventually want to rent (and one day buy) a 35mm adapter to put my Nikon lenses on. I no absolutely nothing about them, because i've never used one. I had a few questions:

Do they mount on the threads or bayonet of the camera?

Once your set up, can you then control the iris on the 35mm lens? or do you still have to use the camera's iris?

I know you lose a little light, but do you lose any quality through all the glass?

Which ones would you reccomend?

Which ones WOULDN'T you reccomend?

Approx. what is the price range of a daily rental rate (in the los angeles area)?

Usually threads.

You can use both, but usually in a limited range, 1-4, maybe 5.6.

You lose sharpness. Shooting 1080p on HV20 I go from 650 lines of resolution (650 lw/ph) to 540 at the center of the image, and as low as 320 at the edge. In real life this is not as terrible as it sound. 320 lines is still more than SD.

In addition, you get more chromatic aberration, especially at the edges.

With most lenses, light fall off from center to edge is also worsened. Some lenses vignette strongly.

I have a Brevis, and I like the price/performance. But there is no perfect one.

I wouldn't recommend DIY. Even a well made adapter is a lot of fuss. Unless you value your time at zero, or simply enjoy messing around, don't DIY.

Haven't got a clue.
