A Dumb DVX user...

I shouldn't call people dumb but you should know what your shooting with!!!!!

I was on a shoot last night in Philly, and I saw this girl behind our news van setting up a tripod and minidv camera. So I walked over to her and said I see your shooting with the DVX100a. She said huh? I repeated myself and then she said, No its a Panasonic! LOL! I was like I know I have one myself and its called a DVX100A made by Panasonic and she was like "Oh".

I guess she was all caught up in her work to realize what kind of camera she was using! LOL!

Such a sad thing to have such good equipment, and not know what it's capable of...

i was watching some nba tour thing on espn and the player was somewhere in asia, he had a camera bag with him so i thought he would whip out a 1chipper or something super small and expensive, but nope. the guy pulls out a dvx and starts waving it around while on vacation.

I always think it's weird when people own DVXs and don't know about this community. (I would assume she didn't, if she didn't know what the camera model was.)

Sounds like that person is just going thru the motions. They don't care about the work they're doing. They take their job and their equipment for granted. Fire her and give her job to someone who appreciates the opportunity.


Of course, maybe she was a friend of the crew, or an aspiring news reporter, or it was bring your son/daughter to work day. Maybe she has no interest in the equipment because she hates it. I don't know.

Hey, who knows. Maybe her stuff looks incredible and shes just not an equipment junkie. I am a professional still photographer, and there have been numerous extremely successful photographers that claim to be equipment idiots. They are just "naturals," they just happen to have "the eye," or whatever. Maybe shes a cinematography genious that doesn't know or care whether its made by Panasonic or Mattel, as long as she gets the results she wants. Or maybe shes a bimbo with a rich daddy. You just never know til you see her footage...

pptphoto, you got it exactly, not everyone needs to see the label, they just use the tools.

Crap! I just looked at my cameras label. It's NOT a DVX, it's a Sharp VL-Z3U miniDV palmcorder.

So long guys. It's been fun.
