a different kind of problem

I have a source file that's a 640x480 MPEG.

I render it as a smaller mpeg just fine, but when I try to render as WMV it puts these annoying black borders on the sides. (Sort of like watching a widescreen movie on your TV....except the black is on the sides instead of the top and bottom)

Doesn't matter what size I try to make the output file, or whether I check or uncheck the "stretch output" box when I render.

Anyone have this problem before and know a workaround?

Take a look at the format you are selecting for rendering. It sounds like you may be rendering a 4x3 image to a 16x9 wmv format, thus the vertical letterbox.

What's your pixel aspect ratio when you render? A 640x480 MPEG is most likely 1.000. If you're rendering a WMV at default settings, it's 720x480 at .909. Go to the custom settings and choose 640x480 with 1.000.
