A couple o questions

I'm compiling a list of basic lenses that I'm going to purchase for my DVX100A.

Here is my current list:
1.) Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus

2.) Telephoto AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens

3.) Wide Angle AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D Autofocus Lens
or
3.) Zoom Super Wide Angle Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Autofocus Lens

Here are my questions:
- is the #2 lens 'long' enough for a telephoto? In otherwords, would it be suitable for close ups?

- which lens for #3 would you choose? or would you recommend one not listed (keeping it under $300)?

- are all of these lenses compatible with a Brevis35?

- can I purchase a Brevis35 w/out a flip module, and save myself $400, or is it a necessity?

- would a steadicam merlin be able to support a dvx100a, brevis35 adapter, and a nikon lens?

Thank you so much in advance.

You're going to want to be using manual focus lenses. It's a lot harder to focus with an autofocus lens because it's such a short focus throw.
Manual lenses are usually cheaper too.

As long as you get a nikon mount for your Brevis adapter, your nikon lenses, or lenses with a nikon mount will work. Except the autofocus.

And yes you can buy the brevis without the flip module, but trying to frame a shot with an image that is both horizontally and vertically flipped can be quite challenging (if you're not used to it already).

Hope this answers some of your questions
