A bumpy shot

I need to do a shot where I'm on the highway, about 150 feet above ground. I'll be capturing the scenery. Think is, I've never shot out the window of a car before. It'll be bumpy and I need the shot to be steady. There's no sunroof and I don't really want to hang the whole camera outside the window for obvious reasons.

Any techniques?

Thanks.

Well without a carefully thought out rig, having the camera outside of the window will never be even relatively steady.

What I would suggest doing is to shoot your scene with a consistent target in frame, meaning have a car follow you or drive along side you for example. The important thing is that you shoot something 'trackable'. Obviously, do your best to keep the camera steady and when it's all said and done send it to post.

If your using After Effects CS5.5, you can most likely get away with applying Warp Stabilizer and call it a day. Nonetheless, you may or may not experience some issues depending on how well you plan your shot beforehand. You can always track a lincence plate or window etc. to acheive the desired result in older versions of AE too.

Hope this helps.

If it were me tasked to do this shot, I'd look at a hardware solution.

I'd go for a Toyota Sienna (2nd or 3rd generation) which has a MASSIVE side center window that rolls completely down.
Inside I'd set up a bungie rig to mount the camera. There are many ways to do this, here is one I found on the internets:

Another option is to rent a kenlab gyro, an awesome device that uses a combination of physics, military grade hardware and magic to stabilize a camera:

Interesting rig. Do you know of any online footage shot using it?

This also looks interesting. Any footage?

Use a helicopter.

How are you going to get a camera 150ft above the ground from a ground based vehicle
