A bullet in the head just isnt enough....

**Potential Spoilers for those still living in the 18th Century and haven't seen "The Shawshank Redemtion" yet...**

I am watching "The Shawshank Redemption" right now for the millionth time. To me, its one of the greatest movies ever. It never gets old for me. Its fantastic.

And, I want to say... I love the ending. I love how it all winds up. Its tied up in a neat little bow. Having said that, I can't help but get frustrated every time I see the end where the wardon blows his own brains out. Yeah, he takes his own life. And yeah, I love how Andy gets him back for being such a prick. But, am I the only one who just wanted to see the guy hang from his toenails? I just wanted to see him tortured, put in solitary for a month, tortured, raped, etc. etc. etc. One bullet to the head wasn't satisfying enough for me. I just needed the scum to suffer more. And that goes for most movies where there is a bad guy who is beyond bad that meets his end with a bullet from the good guy. Usually at the top of a building somewhere in a rainstorm.

I am not a violent person. But, does anyone else agree with me? That sometimes payback coming in the way of a bullet to the head just isn't enough?

Anyone have any movie titles where the bad guy REALLY gets it in a way where you almost feel sorry for them?

I agree, the bad guy never gets what he deserves. The closest I could think is maybe a bit extreme and they aren't even realllllly "bad guys" per se. But in the Saw movies the test subjects are tortured quite a bit and supposedly they are the bad guys and jigsaw is the "justice-maker". Not really how I saw it though

One of my earliest memories of a bad guy who really made me mad was when Bruce Dern killed John Wayne. Man, I remember my 7-year old body filling with rage as I witnessed that scene at the drive-in theatre. Bruce was an awesome bad guy.

Terry,

Good call on "The Cowboys". It is one of my favorite westerns and I am always surprised by how few people have seen it.

Chris

p.s. "The Shawshank Redemption" is a masterpiece. It's a shame it had to go up against "Schindler's List" at the Oscars.

Holy Crap Terry! You just brought back ONE major memory. I remember being a little kid, in the 70's addicted to Television and Movies (no surprise being a member of this site) and I woke up real late, after midnight (my parents never policed our bedtime) and I found that John Wayne flick (The Cowboys? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068421/ ). you are talking about. I only saw it where John got gunned down. I was a kid but knew enough to know I didn't believe my eyes. To this day, I avoid that movie like the plague. Sort of reminded me of The Omega Man when Charleston Heston gets it in the end. I saw that late night too. Talk about nightmares...

EDIT: Chris-you couldn't be more right. "Schindler's was great" but I could NEVER watch that over and over and over again like I can "Shawshank." To me, its in my top 10 easy. Maybe top 5.

only it went against Pulp Fiction a year later :lipsrseal

I thought the warden's suicide worked, dramatically. He's a coward and he dies a coward's death.
