A brilliant, moving review of the movie 'Priest'.

Hi folks, long time reader 177th time poster.

Dammit! I left the 'A' out of 'Brilliant in my title! Go figure.
Ironius failus maximus.

Herewith my review of Priest:

The first time I watched it, I shouted and made loud happy noises all the way through so I invited a bunch of buddies to watch it again.
Most of them made similar noises.
The two who thought it was 'ok' were immediately baptized in popcorn and instructed to leave our country under threat of death.

The third time I watched it, I concluded that it was friggin awesome.

There.

Review concluded.

Saw it the other night. Not the best movie ever, but I enjoyed it. Kind of thought that the vampires looked a little too familiar, though.

Nooooo!

So there I was, a few years back, standing at a urinal having a wizz after watching the Matrix 2, basking in the afterglow of a truly awesome movie when... Suddenly a dude at the urinal next to me mentions to his buddy at the sink: "That was the biggest load of rubbish ever".

Why can't everyone have awesome taste like mine?

I must say though, I am very glad that you enjoyed it and you may continue to freely post in this thread without fear of baptism by popcorn.

As for the familiar looking vampires, i was just uber relieved that they didn't sparkle or have weird emo tendencies!

After watching a full two seasons of Vampire Diaries with my wife i can quite safely confirm that i am all emo'd up for the year!

The great thing about movies is that it's subjective... not everyone has to like everything.

Also if you liked Matrix 2, not sure I'll trust your judgement on this one. :P

Man... a scifi movie has to be perdy darn crap for me NOT to like it!

I'm a glass half full kinda guy when it comes to scifi :)

Wilbur, did you like Sucker Punch?

I was really interested in seeing Priest when the ads first came out, but the closer it came to release, the less willing I was to plunk down hard cash for it, so I'll wait and check it out on DVD. I imagine it will be pretty awesome -- I really like Paul Bettany (though I'm extremely jealous of him for being married to Jennifer Connelly) and Karl Urban.

I think what mostly puts me off is that it's directed by Scott Stewart, who did Legion. Legion was pretty meh. Still, I've seen some films this year that really surprised me in how awesome they were -- case and point, Battle: Los Angeles was a pretty badass film.

I enjoyed the look of Priest and some of the characters. It was fun, but not amazing. What I really didn't like was the jumping VFX, they were REALLY bad. Almost as bad as the jumping scenes in Surrogates. It's fine to defy the abilities of man, but when you start breaking the laws of physics for things inanimate objects and such, it just looks very unbelievable.

Of course, given that I didn't like the second Matrix movie either, we probably have different taste. My problem with the second Matrix movie was the fights. Long, boring, and pointless. It was like watching an episode of old Batman, all that was missing was the "POW"s :)

But the extended car/bike/truck chase rocked, right?
That slow-motion scene where Morpheus stands down the pick up truck with a samurai sword, pierces its fuel tanks, and then sets it alight with his machine pistol, set to a rocking track....I dont know..... that was an awesome moment on the big screen (and that was just one fraction of that whole sequence). There were too many great moments in that film to dismiss it entirely (though it was flawed)....

Uhhhh...so guess I'll go see this Priest movie.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, there were some AWESOME scenes in Matrix 2 that I enjoyed. I just felt like after all the work they put into the first one, and how well it flowed, the second one just felt wrong. The story became very flat to me, and much of the movie felt like filler rather than story.

It was kinda like Watchmen for me in that there was a lot to ooh and ahh about but the whole premise is above my Geek pay grade.

Priest was particularly awesome for me because of my love for Clint Eastwood Westerns. I'm huge fan of the one liner! :D

"I thought Priests don't use Guns"
"We don't. the Bullets are for you"
(paraphrased).

The giganet fellow (hwever you spellit) was the only downer for me.
Bit too pretty for that particular role IMO but the rest was friggin awesome!

And THOSE BIKES! OMG!

*Drool*

I am so building myself one of those!

Think 'Unforgiven' but with Vampires, Bikes and plenty of popcorn! :D

As for The Matrix.... Popcorn, bubblegum and digital cheese. You definitely don't take a film critic to watch that kinda thing!
Me likee!
