So, a really strange thing just happend to me and i would like to make some sense of this. I had some 24p adavanced (2:3:3:2) footage that i edited in premiere pro 1.5. After finishing editing i wanted to create a copy of this footage on VHS for a client (i output through firewire to a camera as a deck and then go to a VCR) of course i would have to add a 2:3 pull down in order to do this properly so i exported a 24p advanced file out of premiere and imported it into vegas removing the 2:3:3:2 pulldown and then exporting a 24p normal file 2:3 pulldown. Now i was about to import this file into premiere 6.5 in a 29.97 project since premiere pro normally treats this file thinking its 24p advanced. but becasue the file is longer than 3 hours and 6.5 can only handle a timline that is 3 hours i tried inporting it into a premiere pro 29.97 timeline just to see what could be done. When i imported this footage it recognized it as 23.976 and needed to be rendered or i could interprete the footage to 29.97 and the footage would be sped up by 20% as i expected would happen. Oddly enough a minute later i tried importing the file again and premiere magically recognized it as 29.97. I couldnt believe my eyes. I tested out teh footage looked fine playing back. you can see that there are 2 interlaced frames every 3 frames. How could this have happened? I know that if there is a frame that is 29.97 before the footage premier will use that as a marker and treat the footage as 29.97 but if it was captured as 24p footage and exported as that there would be a speed change. Its like there was magicly support for 24pn footage. Maybe someone sees where i went right or wrong but if someone has vegas try copying this process. I am curious to see if it just my system or something. I am gonna try capturing some 24pn footage from my xl2 in a few minutes and post results.
