Looking to get a 9mm prop gun that looks as close to the real thing as possible. ANyone recommend a brand? I've recelty purchased a 9mm airsoft (silver back) but when i pull the trigger the top piece doesn't JOLT back like a real NINE.

Want the character to jolt the top piece back to disengage one of the muzzle bullets.

How much money do you have to spend? For what you are looking for you might want to try renting a prop from Movie Gun Services

Their website says they have pistols with working slides, but they cannot be modified to fire (blanks or live rounds). I have never worked with this company, so I can't say anything about their quality or cost.

Purchasing a prop weapon like this is going to cost you about $100 on the low end.

The jolt you're talking about is blowback. There's a bunch of websites out there on Google.

There's always gun-related questions in the directing topic. If you're looking for an answer for a PROP gun (especially when PROP is in the subject line), you'll get alot better play in the Special Effects/Stunts topic.

And, amazingly, even though this is the wrong topic to post it in, there's already a thread about gun props on the same page in the directing forum.

not so much about directing: buying prop guns

Use the search bar in the Special Effects topic, and you'll find a bunch of prop-gun related threads (even a helpful sticky at the top of the page):

They have gas operated blowback airsoft guns that look and function the part. They even have a decent little pop to them. If you opted for one with a mock silencer on it you could probably pass the "pop" off as a silenced pistol without sound effects. Places like www.redwolfairsoft.com or www.airsoftextreme.com are a couple of good places to look. They aren't super cheap, but they will last and you can use them on more than one production. I haven't priced them, but I be you could spend as much renting one from a "prop" house. Just my .02
