Hey guys,

I recently posted regarding my film LIMBO that was finished earlier this year. We are hoping to get a North American release for the film in the next few months with a release date for early 2006 on dvd sales and rentals for the North America territory.

Your opinions are valuable. I'm a movie fan and that's why I made the film. I was an Undergrad in college in NYC when I made it. Great crew, solid actors and a lot of luck helped make it happen. I'm hoping it gets a good run in the rental sales arena based on the support of other indie ultra low budget filmmakers. I will update regularly on progress. In the meantime visit the site and let me know what you think of this wannabe DV noir classic (i hope!!!!). There are trailers, clips, music, bios and all the info you'd want for the film.

We will be using the DVX for the bonus dvd sruff. This film was done on an XL1S and filmlooked. SO tedious!!! DVX should help a bundle.

To all those who have already visited the site and left me feedback thanks a lot.

www.limbomovie.com (flash and quicktime needed, Internet Explorer is best)

Trailers also available at: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2670550

Any suggestions on what you'd want to see on a bonus disc for such a film will be helpful.

Thanks

Looking MIGHTY spiffing there from what I've seen!

(the website could lose the intro and be a little more user friendly, but that's just a personal thing with me.)

welcome aboard Mr. Ikimi!

guys i have seen "Limbo", although the version i saw is now officially a year old, and i liked it then. anyhow, good to see you on DVXUser, now buy a DVX! You're gonna love this site, if you dont already!

what's up John. Yeah guys i've run into John and the hunting camp guys a couple of times on the fest circuit and he indeed has seen the older version of the film as i've seen his movie too. You should all try and check out his site which is cool and the movie has a very interesting ending that I won't give away.

Thanks for the comments. The final version of LIMBO is even more philosophical than the first.

watched the trailer, needs to be de-interlaced. Did you shoot this in 24p?
blazinqoat which trailer did you watch? the teaser is not filmlooked as it was made a long while ago, but is deinterlaced. The main long trailer is filmlooked and is quite recent.

dvxuser discount on the dvd?

hahahahahaha j/k :)

update:

I'll tell you what I don't like on dvd's as far as special features are concerned. You see this in most all dvd's put out by the big companies:

A retelling of the story with interviews of the directo and actors. And every actor saying OMG this director is soooo dam awesome OMG I love working with him and her and the same thing being said about all the main actors. It sounds so fake, like they were paid to say all those things.

What I love to see/hear is directors commentary on the technical stuff (with cinematographer and editor too, unless you are the same person, hahahahaha).

Robert Rodriguez's commentary on El Mariachi was awesome. Although I hated Once Upon A Time in Mexico, I'm going to rent just to hear the commentary, hope its good.

Personally I'd like to hear about the equipment you used, kinda like the extras on the Radius DVD.

gotta go, maybe I'll add stuff later

ROKOKO!

Looks grate! It's a real film  Hollywood is just around the corner.

No problem that its B&W, in terms of selling it?

Did you use alot of lights?

best

Jon

Thanks...

Thanks...

man it's been a pain in the ass getting the movie seen. SO hard to get into festivals but we did after some hard perseverance. The black and white thing puts of most distributors because the market is saturated and stylised films like this are usually in colour. However, that is what will help us in the end. Not many B&W dv philosophical films out there are there? Once it gets released we hope word of mouth will make it sell. So spread the word! Let me know any ideas for internet/underground promotion in our buildup and anything that you'd want on the bonus dvd.

Thanks, yeah people go wow when they watch it cause it cost 9000 to shoot and it's a feature that looks very cinematic with DV!

Yes we took A LOT of time lighting. I had great DP called Jon Miller who aqueezed every ounce of quality out of nothing. The gaffers would take about 40 mins or 30 mins per set up to get the interior scenes just right. You'll see some pretty sweet looking shots on the interior scenes lighting wise. We basically just pretended it was a 35mm film and lit that way. It really helped when it came to filmlooking it.

What did you do to "film-look it"? Was it planed to be in B&W from the beginning? What's there to consider? Are you doing a film out? Did you use a lens adapter? Does 9000k include equipment, post, and i guess no one got payed?

thanx
Jon

Sent it to a company called filmlook in LA. Very expensive in retrospect considering a dvx costs $3500. Yes it was planned B&W from the get go. No film out, no need as we projected digitally for fests and we are going to dvd for distribution. No lense adapter was used. Yes the 9000 was for everything to get the movie shot. It does not include post costs like tapes and travel and so on. i.e. for 9000 we had an exhibition showable dvd of the film. hence production budget. ie batman begins cost 150mil but if u ad post costs etc it cost closer to 250 total. no one got paid except for a few minor workers roles. it was deferred, credit based on points ownership in film given in lieu of pay.

By the way, a major point is deciding on 16 by 9 or 4 by 3. It will make a difference in the end as theatrical screens work much better with 16 by 9.

"it was deferred, credit based on points ownership in film given in lieu of pay"

How much is customary to give for the main elements- actors, line producer, DP, lighting, sound, grip?

Jon Oskar,

This is ROKOKO's first film, I could be wrong but I am not sure he can answer this for you...might be a good question to post elsewhere though on the forum...

Well it depends on the deal you agree on. For actors, if you use SAG pros, then you have to try to get SAG waivers where their fees are deferred till money is made on the film. For crew members, you just have to agree on what they want. it could be a deferred 100 or 50 grand on sale of film or it could be nothing but credit in the film and clips for their reel. It really depends on the deal you strike with each person.
