8mm captures

Does anyone know if anybody makes some kind of 'gizinta' for an 8mm cassette (other than the camera, of course) that I can use to capture for editing? Boss handed me the tape (of a friend) who wants a dvd and probably lots of editing (like when they had it running in the camera bag)...

Spent about an hour online and onphone (sheesh, that was an experience!) to no avail.

Thanks in advance,

It would be called a Deck and they made them for 8mm once upon a time.

Use a camera (which maybe easier to find) and analogue it out to your capture card. Edit in PremPro.

Thanks Shooter,

Kind of figured it would be called something like that but always wanted to use the word: "gizinta" Sounds cheesier than 'deck', or 'camera'...

Thanks again!

This should record digital 8 only but can play back all the 8mm formats like any digital 8 vtr
Cheper to buy a camera to use as a deck however, i ripped my heads up so bad on my digital 8.

Don't know why people gave up on digital 8, just as good in terms of quality than mini-dv, dvcam, dvcpro. Guess the tapes themsleves didnt hold up as good since they were based on analog formats.

Thanks egproductions,

I got hold of a friend's camera but it was so old I couldn't get it to work, which didn't hurt my feelings one bit. Threw it back on the guy who gave us the tape to cough up his camera if he wanted to get it transferred...
