83min MQ tapes OK?

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, I really did look. Are there any issues with using the 83 min MQ tapes as opposed to the 63 min? Just wondering which ones I should get. I have used up my first two boxes of 63mins and was looking around, although I know I'll end up buying from Rush. ;D

This is one of those "ask three people, get five opinon" questions. I'm sure others will feel otherwise, but i will not use the 80 minute tapes. I've seen way too many problems with them in general (not just Panasonic). In order to fit it in the cassette many compromises were made that are not in our best interest. Other than AA batteries, tape is the cheapest thing we use, and at $4.60 each I just don't see any point in taking the risk. If you need longer recording times, get that external recorder (was it the AG-DV1DC).

You can definatly use them, however, like mitch stated, it is not highly recommended. 83min tapes will not have the same lifespan as 63 min tapes for the simple reason that the actual tape is thinner in order to fit more of it in that small little cassette. Mitch, where are you getting your tapes at $4.60 ea? is this bulk order rate?

Either Peak Media or National video tape. They are both local (Arizona), but I know Peak has offices around the country...
