Hello, and thank you to all those who answer, I have a sound devices 744T recorder, I would like to control the track names with an hp, 64 bit windows 7, PC, i have updated the firmware to 2.66, when plugged into the 744T, the computer see's the 744T but wants to see it as a storage device, is there a program that I can use to record the names and information on each track of the 744T there by logging my takes for the editor - I can do this manually with the 744T menu, but is time consuming, using a laptop will be most helpful in recordering the information, so I guess what I'm looking for is a software program or someway to accomplish my goal - any info will help, the tech's at sound devices don't seem to get what I'm asking, they keep insisting that thats all the pc is for is to down load the tracks to the pc, I know I have seen an audio tech using a 788 with a pc, maybe thats whats different, but I'm hoping some experianced 744T user will share with me the proceedure. thanks again!!!!!!!!!

Just so I understand. Are you wanting to be able to remotely name the tracks on the 744t with the computer while the computer is plugged into it? It's been about half a year since I've used the 744t, and I don't think there was that capability at the time...but like I just said, its been 6 months since I've last used it, and haven't seen the latest firmware update. I don't know how easy it would be to do something like that.

After you have recorded the files you can rename them with a computer. PC sees the 744 HDD and FC-card as external drives and you are free to manipulate (delete, move, rename etc) the files like on any external drive.

I would not do it though (paranoid man), but copy the files to PC first, then rename them.

You can use Sound Devices' Wave Agent, free download. Looks like the SD site is down right now, but check this out:

You can import your tracks into Wave Agent, enter information, notes, etc. and then generate a sound report from that. I believe the information is also saved as metadata that I believe will play nicely with other audio software.

Edit: Sorry - looks like you want to manipulate data while on recording on location, I've used Wave Agent after recording, not while on location.
