744 question

Hi everybody, I’m doing a documentary with my SD 744T. I noticed that after work almost three hours, the recorder was very hot, almost untouchable. It was inside a portabrace but wasn't in any adverse climate conditions. Any body tell me if is it normal ? I work with a sony batterie. Recording in the CF and the HD using one mic with phantom power.
Thanks.

The 744t does get pretty hot, which is one of the reason when I was speaking with my dealer I shied away from the PB bag. Got the Petrol bag instead which allows it some decent ventilation. Never had an issue with it getting too hot even when recording 2 hour concerts on 4 channels (in a very hot club), so I got no worries.

It's the HDD that is getting hot so if you are worried you can try just recording to the CF.

If you got other 744t questions you might want to check out the RAMPS group. A lot of people in there own one and you can find a lot of info and feedback on it over there.

Best

Yeah, that's normal. It'll get even hotter if you have it plugged into AC while you are using it and charging the battery at the same time.

rise the recorder inside the bag to give some ventilation from the underneath
the petrol bags usually comes with small bridge for 302 or 774 to match the height to the mixer one
