7-11 Conducts First FAA-Approved Autonomous Drone Delivery

Once at the family's backyard, the Flirtey drone hovered in place and gently lowered each package. The purchases were delivered to the family in the span of a few minutes. Products included Slurpee® drinks, a chicken sandwich, donuts, hot coffee and 7-Select® candy. In the future, both companies expect drone packages to include "everyday essentials" such as batteries and sunscreen.

Looks like it dropped off pkg 1 by winch at 2:38, after taking off from a fairly desolate area, and neither dropoff point looked like a "backyard".

I wonder how the Slurpee held up? "Air" Jordans, anyone?

I guess it brings new meaning to their old jingle "Oh thank heaven for 7-11..."

True, Bill. But if you absolutely, positively need that Slurpee (or chicken sandwich, or HDMI cable) in minutes, it's there.

I tried Amazon Prime, and as for the quick delivery aspect of it, found I usually didn't need it. When I do, I'll pay for it.

It's the whole instant gratification aspect of it all that I find more baffling than the 5 min Slurpee...

Thank you for sharing.
There are just so many potential problems for this becoming any sort of mainstream:
weather, trees, obstacles, vandals etc that make this neither cost effective or viable.

How many people when seeing one of these will try to shoot it down or steal it? And how many people don't have backyards? etc etc...

I'd still prefer a replicator.
